Tooth Coloured Fillings
With the availability of stronger, more durable filling materials this is becoming a more viable treatment option for more and more restorations. We can now place tooth coloured fillings in almost any tooth, the only dictating factor being the size of the filling.
The advantages to choosing a tooth coloured filling as opposed to a silver amalgam filling are:
- We are able to match your own tooth colour to the colour of the filling so the filling is almost invisible.
- Mercury is not present in any white filling materials.
If you would like to consider having white fillings, you should discuss this with our Mulberry Dental Colchester team as there are different options available.
This is the application of a tooth-coloured composite resin (plastic) to repair a fractured, chipped, decayed or discoloured tooth. Unlike veneers, which are manufactured in a laboratory and require a customised mould to achieve a proper fit, bonding can be done in a single visit. The procedure is called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.
The following are examples of where Composite bonding can be used:
- To fill in and repair chipped teeth.
- To even out jagged or rough edges.
- To close gaps between the teeth.
- To reshape teeth.
If your front teeth are stained, chipped, or malaligned, veneers will give you a good life-like appearance with minimum tooth adjustment.
A veneer is a porcelain facing on the front of your teeth (usually your top teeth) and it is just like a false finger nail.
Veneers are made out of porcelain so are extremely strong and are used mainly for aesthetic reasons.
Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy, and because they are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond (rather like super-glue) very little preparation of the tooth is needed. Porcelain veneers can also improve the colour, shape and position of teeth.
A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth generally.
Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can also be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
